WE MADE IT TO THE FINISH LINE!!!

The Boys of BH are finally getting our heads back above water after the splendor of our

Summer Country Vintage Marketplace weekend.

WOW, I don’t even know where to start with this post.

So let me just go back a spell.

When Joe and I started planning for this year, we decided we wanted to change up our game plan to create more of a balance in our lives.

In 2011, there would be one big BH event on the calendar

and we would just play the rest by ear.

Our mantra this year has been,

We have no room for ANYthing but GOOD in our lives –

only the best of the best can fit.

AND, we can only invite the most positive

and beautiful experiences

into our home and onto our Farm.

This has nothing to do with material possessions, but everything to do with the core of how we live on a day-to-day basis,

with the people we choose to surround ourselves,

and the positive overall experience we want folks to feel when they visit our farm.

This year has exceeded our expectations tremendously!!

So, let’s fast forward to the weeks leading up to the event.

This was BY FAR the biggest endeavor ever for us.

We added more invited collectors/designers, more food, live music AND a beer/wine garden.

And for the most part, I felt that we were more prepared than ever.

Collectively, we created The Perfect Barn House Storm!!

The weather was PERFECT.

The invited guests were PERFECT.

The customers were PERFECT.
The Parking/Parking Posse were PERFECT.

The band, Celilo & Friends, were PERFECT.

The Beer/Wine was MORE than PERFECT!

We couldn’t have asked for a more PERFECT day with friends and visitors.

We also had a gigantic slumber party on both Friday and Saturday nights.

I will speak for myself in order to protect the” innocent.”
I laughed too loud,
drank too much,
hugged a little too hard,
smiled until my mouth hurt and
even became the after-dinner entertainment one evening.

It’s so incredible to have friends who can just be real and present.

Friends who don’t care if we finished all the projects we thought we could finish prior to the show.

Friends who were happy with Pizza/Beer/Wine under our Pergola and around the fire pit.

Friends who simply have your back and don’t mind pitching in if needed.

We LOVE these people.

It was very special to have them here with us for a few days,

filling our home with love and laughter.

What more could you ask for in life?

A few minutes before the doors opened as we watched the

hundreds and hundreds of people lined up,

I could feel the emotions bubbling to the surface.

“Oh SHIT…not now, Jermonne!!!” is the look Joe gave me.

He could see what was coming a mile away.

I did pretty well as we greeted folks coming through the doors with

“Thank you for coming!”

Then, I got a little caught off guard when I spotted Celeste and Dan (Chaps – Spokane, WA).

That’s when the flood gates opened and out came

all of the LOVE my poor little heart could no longer hold inside.

Yep!

There I was at the front gate with my arms wrapped tightly around Celeste

and crying like a Little Bitch for all to see.

That’s how the day started!

And all morning I spent avoiding certain people in order to NOT have a relapse.

I can’t express how thankful we are to our Invited Guests who worked so hard

to once again take our show to the next level!

We are so honored to know them all and are very inspired by each one of them.

We are also very thankful and humbled by the astounding number of beautiful people

who came and showered us with their generosity and loving spirits.

This was the very first year Joe and I did not have to run around like lunatics putting out fires.

We must thank our staff and friends who volunteered and also handled everything

so Joe and I could just have fun visiting and enjoying the day.

To say the least, we had a BLAST!

One thing is certain.

Consistently affirming our mantra this year eliminated a lot of unnecessary distractions

and allowed us to focus on what is most important to us.

We are blessed in many ways!

Barn House - July 30th...Ready, Set...

The Boys of Barn House and The Barn House Family have been working like crazy to bring you our BIGGEST and BEST endeavor EVER! This collaboration is beautiful in many, many ways. There is so much love and laughter in the air and the party hasn't even started yet. We are very blessed and honored to work with so many wonderful and talented friends.

We are not quite ready, but we seem to be on schedule. First things first, triple our parking - CHECK! Harpo and The Girls are not very happy to be so limited with their space this week, but this was definitely needed for The Cause. We are slowly but surely getting everything taken care of...ATM Machine, LOTS of additional parking, Beer/Wine Garden, Music Festival, and more vintage treasures than EVER at Barn House. We will be busting at the seams with the most vendors/spaces than we have ever had, by far.

Barn House 2011 Vintage Country Marketplace & Music Festival - Sneak Peak

Just a little sneak peek of what we have been working on. Our BIGGEST endeavor yet is only 3 short weeks away and we are SCRAMBLING, to say the least. I have a lot of very special things to share with you about our event very soon!

One thing for sure, plan on staying the WHOLE day.

Barn House at Retreat Vintage Market

We are back from an incredible trip to Camano Island.

The Retreat Vintage Market was a HUGE success!

We are VERY thankful to Deb and Bob Kennedy

for being such amazing hosts.

Staying on their farm for a few days was such a wonderful gift.

I don't know how they do it, but the event was flawless.

Me and Joe are running around like lunatics at our shows.

But trust me, I did take a few notes from these Pros!

We thank Deb, Bob and The Retreat Family
for making us feel so special!!

We don't travel for shows much anymore,

but this trip was special in MANY ways.

We can't express enough how excited we are to be joining DeBob and The Retreat Family on Camano Island, WA

June 25th!

Retreat is one of those businesses that ALWAYS goes above and beyond the call of duty.

The Boys call this behavior "Pulling STUNTS!"

A couple of years ago, we had a tent decorating contest at our Summer Marketplace.

Well, well, well, this is the stunt that Deb & Bob pulled!!

Really????

EVERYONE else just called it quits after seeing this shit! LOL

The Retreat Taj Ma Tent AMAZING!!!!

It also landed them on the front page of an article by Robin Laws which was featured in

Somerset Life - "Barn House Mystique."

RIGHT ON!!

It was VERY WELL deserved for sure!!!

We will forever be thankful of Retreat for elevating our Summer show to the next level.

That's just what they do!!

This is just ONE of the reasons we love and respect them so much.

They are also beautiful, inspiring, generous AND

two of the hardest working people we know in this crazy industry.

So when they moved into their new farm recently and invited us to be one of their featured guests, we JUMPED at the opportunity!!!

They are featuring over 20 invited guests of which many we know and love dearly.

And the ones we don't know, we are really looking forward to meeting

(and maybe tormenting a bit with our shenanigans). ;o)

BH Spring Country Marketplace AND Too Much Other Information...

I am so behind on posting about our latest life changing experiences. I believe it all started with our decision to change up our BH Formula. We decided to have just one big huge show in the Summer, and play the rest by ear - and we are loving it. We decided it was very important to make time for our family and friends - and we are loving it. We decided to celebrate the love we have for each other, our family and our friends...OUT LOUD. And guess what, every day is more and more beautiful as we embrace what we have been blessed to have put on our plates.

Our 2nd impromptu show here on our farm was amazing! It was a last minute thought. We pretty much had to turn what was Joe's hoarding / project / painting area back into our showroom area...in just a couple of days. At a certain point he turned to me and said, "There is SOOOO much stuff, why did you let me do this???" I just looked him dead in the eye and said, "Bitch, 'cause nobody can get control of you!! You have a shopping problem, Baby. You need professional help!" ;o)

So there we were, scrambling at the last minute to get it all done. If you ever come to one of our shows before we open, you will see us in action. We are the lunatics doing ALL of the shit we should have done the day before..pricing, picking up trash/beer bottles, making coffee, taking pictures, cleaning tables, etc. Real BH Shit in the making. It has been cold/raining for AT LEAST SIX MONTHS here in the Pacific NW. It was cold and rainy until Thursday afternoon. Spring really didn't come until Friday. On Saturday, it was sunny and 71 degrees. We have had about 15 shows here in the NW at our place...and not one has been rained out. We are not lucky. We are truly blessed.

We would like to thank all of our very loyal customer's who made it out on Saturday. We love you and our little critters love you too for all of the special treats and love you showed them. We would also like to thank Natalie (Sparrow) for all of her hard work in making the show so special. And we would like to thank Katheryne and Karrie for, again, helping at the register and being their wonderful selves.

AND, we want to thank Kelly of her newly created Bella Berkeley Cupcakes for hooking us up with the delicious sweets for our customers. We are SOOOO very proud of her!!!!

She R-O-C-K-E-D IT...oh yes she did! She was THE PERFECT BH Invited Guest!! :o)

You would have thought it was the Bella Berkeley Cupcack show...not BH...based on all of the love folks had for her and what she did. We are SOOO proud...in addition to everyone else who knows her personally. Right-On! Do your thing, Mama!!!

These ladies started a group named The Wabi-Sabis, which means...

Wabi-Sabi represents a comprehensive Japanese world view or aesthetic centered on the acceptance of transience. The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent and incomplete". Characteristics of the wabi-sabi aesthetic include asymmetry, asperity (roughness or irregularity), simplicity, economy, austerity, modesty, intimacy and appreciation of the ingenuous integrity of natural objects and processes.

LOVED them...and I want into that club! As imperfect as WE are, I am lobbying to get my foot in the door to be part of their click. :o)

We would also like to thank some of our new Besties, Heather & Adrea, for accepting our invitation for salsa, beers, food, campfire fun and lodging after their long trip from Spokane, WA. Definitely no pictures THAT! We had F-U-N! Cheers to new friends!!!

Our lives will forever be changed by embracing our love and happiness, eventhough it often seems too good to be true. We are very thankful!!! Over the past couple of months, we have been on what we are calling our Friendship Tour. I am going to share a few of these experiences with you. Unedited. I don't have much time to explain it all. But I think most of you will feel it in your hearts, just with the photos.

This is one of our BEST friend's 101 year old grandmother. Some of you may remember her from a previous post. Being in her presence is like what I imagine being touched by Mother Teresa. Simply, it is a blessing in itself. We are so happy to know her. This vacation to New Mexico, Colorado and Arizona was my favorite EVER. So much love coming in and going out in such a wild manner...life changing...

And then there were all of the other special visits.

Our visit to Bainbridge Island - Life Changing.

Liz and The Seabold Vintage / Bainbridge Blues Family made us feel so very special.

The show was AMAZING! But, our time with Liz, Jeff and the rest of their family / extended family was life changing. It was a simply a reminder of what is most important in life. It was a true reminder of why we work so hard at this business. I can't wait for our next visit with them!!

Then there was our much needed visit to The Tarte Family. We hadn't seen them since the holidays. So all of that time away from each other resulted in an explosion of madness. Something magical always happens with The Boys of BH and The Tarte People collide in the night. A few hours before our departure, I texted everyone, "Let's all get tatoos tonight...Everybody figure out what the Fuck you are going to get!" Cindy wrote back, "Really????" Well YES, Love, REALLY! And yes, y'all, that's exactly what we did! You can see it all on our Facebook page. Pure madness!! :o)

Oh, and then there was the hook up with one of our Besties, Rebekah of Little Byrd Vintage, at our special "date" spot. Five hours of love and sharing. It was kind of like "Pillow Talk," but in a restaurant full of people. Life changing shit. Fucking Awesome! We love us some Rebekah...LOVE us some Rebekah! No pix on this one...but I hope you caught it.

So the following weekend we were off to see more of our NW Familia...Katie, Scott, Little Audrey and Baby Avery. Who knew a 5 year old's birthday party could be so fun??? Little Audrey's uncles (J&J) bought her a beautfiul dress from Seabold Vintage's online store, and y'all, she LOVED it and R-O-C-K-E-D it!

She is such a beautiful little girl - inside and out. It has been amazing to see her development from being in the belly to the wonderful little lady she has grown up to Be and Inspire.

We thank Katie, Scotty and their families for loving and embracing us as we are so far away our own families. Yes, they have changed our lives and we love them for it!

Well, I know that was a lot of catching up and that I have talked your ear off. I hope it's all good. I hope you caught what's in our hearts by these words and pictures. Soon, we are off to visit our family and friends in Los Angeles. My Grandma has not been well and we are primarily going to give her and my Mommy an Extreme Home Makeover...and visit with our life-long friends. It will be the first time in FIVE years since I have gone back home for a "Pleasure" visit. I am certain it will be EPIC and LIFE CHANGING. Yes, it will!

Well, DUH!

My Mom asked me why I decided to put all of our "business" out here.

It is simple.

We ALL need TRUE friends.

Friends who know our entire story.

Friends who know our hearts are bursting at the seams with L-O-V-E.

Friends who know why/how Barn House was created .

Friends who inspire us.

There is NOT enough room for

ANYthing or ANYone

who doesn't LOVE sharing this experience with us.

We have TOO much other GOOD

stuff cluttering our pathways here on our farm.

Joe and I came together in love and friendship.

Barn House was built on love and friendship.

The Friends of BH are the people who have made this experience so special.

Our collaborations are incredible.

These friends have lifted us up.

Our friends have lifted us ALL up beyond what we could have ever imagined.

NO DOUBT!

We will are thankful and have a lot more to say about this particular subject.

My very special "home girl, Rebekah, deleted her blog a couple of years back.

She had a LOT of “followers.”

WAAAAY more than us.

One day, she woke up and just deleted it.

She was just done with that particular blog.

I envied her SOOOO much.

We would talk about it all over margaritas and laugh our asses off.

Fuck, who does that?????

We LOVE her for being THAT person!

It made HER happy.

SHE makes us happy.

Nobody WE know gets paid to write a blog.

And I certainly don’t get paid a damn thing

by people who might judge me or Joey for this beautifully crazy life we live.

We live it authentically.

I am going to talk about it, authentically.

So, really, who gives a f-u-c-k about haters???

I am going to write for me and those who personally enjoy following our very personal journey…

THIS particular blog is for those who “get IT.”

NON-JUDGMENTAL FOLKS

We are just living our lives together and figuring it all out daily.

We have an online store that does not include any of our personal commentary.

It is open 24/7.

We ALSO have an AMAZING show that is planned on July 30th.

It includes a bunch of VERY talented folks…

EACH with their own diverse perspective on beauty and life.

Creative Diversity

I was VERY close to just deleting this blog.

I hated editing my thoughts because maybe someone would be offended.

As our business started growing, we felt the need to try to please EVERYone.

Oh shit, THE magazine with BH in it is coming out!

Joe, you NEED to sell this/that to TRY to please EVERYone.

Jermonne, you better play it safe on the blog to TRY to please EVERYone.

We better plan EVERYthing a year in advance to TRY to please EVERYone.

As a result, NEITHER of us were very happy with the direction things were going.

WE got lost trying to balance it all.

Yeah, not so good to do.

It’s time to switch things up.

We are following our hearts.

Going places where we BOTH can be inspired.

I will delete it IF I can’t express myself

Whew, it's nice getting all of that out of the way!

I woke up this morning,

kissed my best friend Joey on the lips,

then on the cheek

and then on the neck.

I told him that I loved him.

I told him how VERY proud I am of him.

Then, I told him to get the F* out of the house.

My head is exploding.

I need to write.

He is gone.

I am writing.

Me and Joey met 20 years ago.

YES, TWENTY!

It was a match made by mutual friends before we even met each other.

They knew what was destined.

THIS was certainly destined.

I was 19 years old. I was just a young college Boy.

He was 25 years old and freshly out of a relationship gone wrong.

I fell in love immediately. He was scared and uncertain if he was ready.

I was in college in California. He was in Arizona.

I would cry listening to Anita Baker when driving from visits home.

No, he wasn't ready.

It was too risky f*ing it all up because we were so young. HE knew that.

We were just young Boys then. We had a lot to experience and wild seeds to sow.

Different heartbreaks were needed to understand the real meaning of love.

Maybe a year later on a trip home from Spring Break, we strolled into my Mom's house after going to whatever club it was then. I really thought my Mom would be asleep, as she had to leave for work just a few hours later.

She wasn't sleeping.

Uh Oh

At that time, I was not "O-U-T"

Upon arriving home, I told my Mom a "friend" was going to crash at our house.

She was up reading and told me to just close her door.

WHEW!

Not so much...a few minutes later, she wanted to actually meet my "friend."

IT WAS 3 O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING!

WTF!!

My "friend" had earings, a gazillion silver finger rings, a vest with no shirt and platform Herman Munster shoes.

She looked him up and down with "that" look.

Me and Joe went to sleep in my room.

My Mom went to work.

I left to go back to college the next day.

Me and my mom played "phone tag" for a MONTH.

The VERY first thing that came out of her mouth was,

"Who the F* did you have with you? He looked FUNNY."

I asked, "Does it matter?"

She asked, "What do you mean? Are you?"

I asked, "Does it matter?"

It did NOT matter!

My Mom's love for me is true.

I am her only child...

her only son...

HER Boy.

Over the years, Joe and I would meet up every year or so...the timing still wasn't right.

There was always pillow talk...

"Baby, are you ready?"

We were in the process of learning important lessons about ourselves and about true love.

We were on separate journeys. But when our paths crossed, it always felt good in our hearts.

If you love something, set it free....

He came back to me.

(HEE, TO THE F*ING, HAW)

My Mom had only met Joe once and that was at 3 o'clock in the morning.

When she met him 13 years later, she immediately remembered him.

"I remember you. You strolled in looking like Prince!"

Side note -- Prince was my idol growing up...I was obsessed with him and his music and had every record/magazine/poster/etc.

Apparently, my Mom had made the connection.

He is MY Prince.

He is a tiny-skinny-little man with BIG talent.

Just like I like 'em!

High five for me!

Blah, blah, blah...and here we are today.

Side note - He is BAT SH*T crazy, but I LOVE him and would do anything for him...

like agreeing to plan a show in just FOUR G*D* days!

Are you wondering why on Earth I am telling you all of this?

Simply, I just woke up feeling like I needed to shout it from the mountain top.

I have been bored as F* with my own blog for a while.

Yeah, there might be a few pretty pictures, but it has been lacking what's in our hearts.

It lacks what is TRUELY in our hearts.

It lacks the real reflection of how we live our lives.

It lacks our true voices.

It just lacks ME and JOE.

We are grown A$$ men with a ~~little bit~~ LOT of "crazy" in our heads.

Men who ~~like~~ LOVE to cuss like sailors.

Men who are silly.

Men who change our minds 100 times in a day.

Men who love each other passionately.

Men who don't take ourselves too serious.

Side note - when preparing for this last F*ing minute show in snow/mud, Joe kept complaining about this and that.

Oh, I hate this mud on my shoes.

Oh, it's snowing.

Oh, I am cold.

Oh, I am tired.

Oh this...

Oh that"

Everytime I told him, "Dude, just get the F* over yourself! Who do you think you are?? Shut the F* up and just do what you need to do!!!"

Of course, it was said with all of the L-O-V-E in my heart for him.

I LOVE MY LIFE.

After telling Joe to get the hell out of the house this morning,

I laid in bed thinking about how much I love my life.

How much I love THE man that came back.

How much I love the life we have created together.

How much I love the little business we have created together.

How much I love that we are "unconvententional" people who make up our own rules.

HOW MUCH I LOVE JOE

OUR HOME

OUR FARM

AND OUR ANIMALS!

How much I LOVE our family and friends.

How much I love how good it feels waking up in my home.

And, how good it feels to other folks too!

The life we live is amazing.

Everyday ain't perfect by any means.

But it's perfect for us.

God, what else was I thinking?

OH, the show yesterday.

It was F*ing perfect...I just can't say it any other way.

The weather was perfect.

The customers were perfect.

The friends who stopped by to say "howdy" were perfect.

F*ing Awesome!!!!!

Reinventing Barn House - 2011

During the holidays, we spent a lot of time discussing how we want to live, including how best to integrate Barn House into our long term vision. We have been very fortunate! Barn House has accomplished more that we could have imagined in three short years. As we started to plan for 2011, we figured we would have three vintage shows - Spring, Summer and Fall. But the closer we got to putting it into ink, it just didn't feel like the right formula for where we are in our lives at this moment.

We spent hours visiting with special friends and discussing each others plans for the new year. One thing seemed to be universal in these conversations -- although we didn't have the plan completely defined, we all seemed to know exactly what we did NOT want to do in 2011. We all seemed to want to take a leap of faith and switch things up. For us (J&J), it was really difficult to come to terms with our decision. With so many wonderful experiences over the past the years, our decision was even more challenging.

I woke up in the middle of the night recently with tears in my eyes thinking of all of the things I did NOT want to repeat in 2011, as well as all of the things Joe and I DREAM of accomplishing. When I woke up, I immediately started writing an email that captured everything that was going on in my head -- honest and unfiltered. Now, I wouldn't recommend everyone to hit send right away when making a decision to just let your head explode onto an email. It was filled with a bunch of stuff we did NOT want to do in 2011 and a bunch of more rewarding stuff that we REALLY plan to do. I needed to put it all out in the universe - everything that was in my heart right at that moment. So off I went, hitting send to 30 or more of our dearest friends and colleagues.

To make a long story short...

We are only scheduling ONE event in 2011!

The Barn House Summer Outdoor Marketplace - July 30th

We will host 30+ of the most amazingly talented, creative, loving and FUN artists, collectors and hoarders who we know and love from The Pacific Northwest, California and Utah.

This doesn't mean we are not going to host any other events at our place! We are leaving our hearts and calendar open to some great ideas that will continue to evolve organically. These events will be smaller and more intimate. Please be sure to email us at TheBoys@BarnHouseBH.com if you would like to be added to our email list for updates.

The Reinvention of Barn House includes much more than our special events. This year, we will share a lot about the adventures on our new journey. We intend to be more "unfiltered" on our blog. We will be discussing things that we have not in the past. There might occasionally bit a bit of adult language. The "Unfiltered" Boys of Barn House perspective may lean towards being Deliciously Tart VS. Sugary Sweet. We hope that you will continue to follow us on our journey, but if not, we sincerely thank you from the bottoms of our hearts for the time you have spent with us.

After reading the "Unfiltered Novel" I emailed out yesterday morning, our Auntie Joy sent us the following two quotes from Dr. Seuss. It was a special sign telling us to follow our hearts and that IT's all going to be good. Life is too short to do anything else!

"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind."

"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go..."

2010 exceeded every expectation we could have imagined! We are so honored, thankful and humbled -- our journey has been full of surprises, friendship, generosity and L-O-V-E...

We are very blessed to have true friends...

You know, those friends that will laugh hysterically in the background when you are trying to be serious modeling with the skinniest Thanksgiving Turkey EVER...next to the chubbiest Jermonne ever. Needless to say, the holiday season has been good to me (jer-)...

After five years of "farm life," we FINALLY ate our first home grown turkey. This story needs a post of its own, no doubt! Cry Baby Jermonne was not able to participate in the "Turkey Harvesting," but I was able to awkwardly pose with one of my cooked skinny wild turkeys. There are SOOO many things wrong with this picture! AND, it's really ok for you to laugh at the Hot Mess above. Joe, Cindy, Barry and Kylee sure got a good chuckle out of it all. (look at them all laughing at me...I am even laughing at me.)

The Boys of Barn House are officially back from our little blogging hiatus...

Let us just start by saying THANKS to Auntie Joy who generously did a little midnight guest blogging right before our last event of the year. We love you, Auntie!

Barn House, Tarte and Auntie Joy had a blast preparing for the show! I personally feel it was one of our most beautiful shows to date. It certainly was our best ever Fall event, that's for sure!! :o)

We must certainly thank all of those who made this such a special event, including all of our friends who came to help on the day of the show as well as the many folks who came from all over the country to visit Barn House for our last event of 2010! You ALL are THE BEST! Thank you, thank you, thank you -- from the bottoms of our hearts.

Our special friends and visitors have made this year incredible for Barn House!

The growth year over year is astounding. We would have never imagined that we would be embraced by so many after such a short period in this crazy game.

(Side note - one of our Toms discovered the stuffed turkey above and all Hell almost broke out 5 minutes before we opened the doors. I thought our visitors might get a little more than they expected if there was an all out turkey brawl in the middle of the show.)

We have been asked the same question by many folks. "Where the heck are you guys?" It's pretty simple.

We have been doing less BH and a lot more J&J.

This includes visiting with friends and enjoying our farm/critters.

We were also absorbing the last few days of sunshine before what is predicted to be the worst NW Winter in 50+ years -- God help us all, LOL!

Oh, and then there has been all of the other AWESOME pieces of good news we would like to share!!!

#1 - Barn House is featured in the November 2010 issue of Romantic Homes Magazine!!! This year has been off the charts with the incredible press we have received! The Oregonian Newspaper, Somerset Magazine, Flea Market Style (TWO articles!), The Columbian Newspaper, Sunset Magazine and now Romantic Homes!!! Who would have known??!! HEE HAW!!!

Then there is some fantastic news about our Besties over at Tarte. The Tarte Family is taking a a new path on their journey!! Two years ago, we were there when they moved into their Barn in Oregon City.

Please try to imagine the amount of creativity, talent and hard work it takes to start with an empty old barn like this...

And turn it into a place overflowing with Magic and Inspiration for all that visit...

We have been extremely honored to have been featured invited guests at Tarte over the past years. Cindy's talent never ceases to amaze us. She is something else (to say the least)!!

Barn House Market -- The BH Online Store!

Honestly, the unexpected response to Barn House Market this year was unbelievable!! We could have never imagined the response OR the amount of work it would take -- product selection, product photographing, uploading pictures and let's not even talk about shipping. For those who have been following us for a while, you know there was a little drama behind the scenes with launching our online store. Check out the details here if you didn't hear the story. It's pretty hilarious. We pretty much shut the store down because we just couldn't manage it during our Event season with all of the other responsibilities. Not to mention, BHBoy #2 has been slowly trying to get BHBoy #1 to drink the BHMarket Kool-Aid. I eventually waved my White Flag and decided to just enjoy the Summer and Fall. It was a very good decision. We had an AMAZING time enjoying our home, farm and friends. It was liberating! Life is really too short to be stuck at this computer during the most beautiful time in The NW. The compromise was well worth it.

The good news is we are almost ready to reopen!! Here are a few sneak peeks...

The 2010 Barn House Flea Market!

The unexpected happened on July 31st here at Barn House!

WOW! Last weekend was a pivotal moment in time for Barn House, to say the least. It was incredible!! It was exhilarating on many different levels!! We had a spectacular turnout of customers and friends of BH, and the most incredible treasures and displays from our featured guests! After every show, The Boys evaluate the good and all of the things we can do better in preparation for our next event.

But, let me step back a bit. After last season, we decided that 2010 was the year for us to focus on core values of why we moved to the country, why we started our little business and also on making time to nurture the friendships we have made over the years of being in The Beautiful Pacific Northwest. Also, we threw a few things out in The Universe about inviting only good, positive and clean energy onto our farm. Our home is the most sacred place on Earth for us and we must honor and protect it. Everything else much kindly and gently be escorted off the premises (y'all know what I mean?).

Our Flea Market last week was an AMAZING collaborative effort! It was a week-long celebration of friendship. It was a celebration of why The Boys and our Special Guests spend hours/days/weeks/months preparing and moving our “stuff” back and forth and back again (then forth and back again-again-and yet again). It was a celebration of why very special friends of BH drive/fly from all over the country and even Canada to be a part of The Barn House Experience.

There is no air conditioning and there is certainly no asphalt parking. Folks will be slowly guided through a bumpy/hilly pasture by a group of polite and honorable teenagers (pictured above) who will inevitably remind them of what good home training is all about. These kids are really wonderful young human beings!

Folks are likely to get snatched up and hugged (and possibly kissed) by a complete stranger or someone they only know from Blog World. And at certain times, folks might just not even be able to hear themselves think with all of the laughter and shenanigans in the air.

There was an awesome Sheriff that helped with a BIG traffic/crowd control issue in the morning. There was also a near riot when Katherine’s Folie ran out of her 400+ Red Velvet Cupcakes (who knew grown men loved cupcakes so much -- very strange! lol). Thank goodness for that Sheriff!

There were those moments when folks could no longer hold back tears of how special moments throughout the day(s) touched their hearts.

We should have started filming a new series called, "The Real Boys of Barn House - What really goes on behind the scenes!" For those that know us, y'all already know that The Boys love a good party (to say the least). So of course, there was the Pre-Show Dinner Party in the backyard the night before the show.

There was an After-Party on Saturday late afternoon and another one on Saturday evening. AND there was an After-AFTER Party celebration with just The Boys and The Queen and King of Tarte on Sunday night. Can you imagine the incredible stories we all have to tell???? There was so much love in the air! You just wouldn't believe it if I tried to explain it in detail (not to mention most of what goes on at BH stays at BH - lol)!

This week long celebration validated many-many-MANY ideals that we hold true to our hearts. #1 is true Friendship. Our only regret is not being able to spend more time during the show with folks that came from all over to visit us and The BH Family. (there was a minor traffic jam that required a tiny bit of attention---thank y'all...thank y'all!) During the really busy hours, I took on the role as Trolley-Taxi-Driver for folks who had to park up and down our country roads. Joe was running up and down the street like a lunatic trying to secure additional parking from neighbors. The 7 Parking Boys and 1 Parking Girl were all sweet as pie during what we will call The Best Thing That Happened To Venersborg In The Last 100+ Years! Most of our close neighbors really still do love us (we pray)!! :o)

Before I get started on our upcoming Flea Market, let me give a quick update on Barn House Marketplace (our online store). We are open for business and spruced up the site with some awesome new products from BH and Retreat. Isabel (Maison Douce) is just getting back in country, so we hope to have more of her treasures once she recovers from frolicking all around Europe. Some of the new items listed are BH's new extra large linen pillows, french bus banners, garden tool belt aprons, slate chalkboards, leather cases, vintage piano player music and much more!!! (the glitches with some of the products have been completely worked out)

Barn House Update - The News!

It has been an incredible week for us! The Sun finally came out signaling that Summer might actual really be here!! As a result, we finally were motivated to get our online store back up and running. Barn House Marketplace is now open for business (again). We are very happy to have two very talented invited guests and friends selling with us - Maison Douce and Retreat Design. There are lots a great treasures...check us out at www.barnhousemarket.com.

We now have new T-Shirts for sale at BHM!

But, the BIG NEWS really is that The Boys of Barn House are in the July issue of Sunset Magazine!!!!

This has really been an unbelievable year for us! We have been featured in Somerset Life Magazine, Flea Market Style Magazine (2 articles shot at our home), The Seattle Times, The Columbian Newspaper and now one of the most iconic magazines - Sunset!! Sunset Magazine has been around for over 100 hundred years (yes, since 1898) and is one of the most widely distributed magazines in the country. It is really unbelievable that we are actually in it. We are so incredibly honored. Life is really good!

I remember clearly when Heather Bullard was here for one of the photo shoots for Flea Market Style and being shocked that she actually wanted to take a picture of us for the magazine. We get TONS of magazines and the reality is that 999 times out of 1,000 there is certainly not folks that look, feel (and maybe smell) like us. We told Heather that there was no way FMS would put a picture of us in the magazine. She winked and said, "Oh yes they will!" And, oh yes, they did! And so did Sunset! Me and Joe have been joking about how terrible we look in the Sunset photo. I don't know what we were thinking about staying up so late the night before, but we look a little rough. The first thing I thought was "Jermonne, you need to stop eating and stop eating NOW!" I told Joe if he had red hair, he would look like Johnny Depp in the Alice in Wonderland movie poster. It's worth $4.95 just for the chuckle about how we look! LOL

OK...enough joking around. If you live on the East Coast and don't have access to Sunset, we have about 25 copies for sale at Barn House Marketplace.

Coming up for air...The Boys of BH are back!

Whew...our Spring Show was something we could have never imagined!! Especially considering that leading up to the show we had decided to NEVER-EVER have another show in May. If you don't live in the NW, you may not know that we have had the coldest/wettest Springs on record. The weather has been absolutely miserable. Getting ready for the show in the cold and rain was less than desirable to say the least (especially when building a new structure was part of the plan).

The Mother's Day Tribute was a little bitter sweet after losing Joe's mom recently.  We also use to host my family and our family of friends in CA for a special Mother's Day celebration at our home. All we really wanted to do was spend time with family/friends, work in our gardens and charm the turkeys. We loudly proclaimed that next year there would be only one show and that would be our Flea Market. It was time to trim the fat...it was time for Part 2 of the Big BH Cleanse. We had way too much stuff cluttering our lives.

We pulled out stuff from every nook and cranny, priced it to sell and waited to see if anyone would show up for what we thought was our final Spring Show. And even though we had proclaimed it was our final Spring event, the Universe expressed something a little different. After weeks of rain, the clouds cleared and the Sun shined brightly on our faces the morning of our event.

The line started about an hour before we opened.

15 minutes before the show, the line was already down to the far end of The Barn.

We said, "Uh Oh!" And just when we thought we we would never do another Spring show, we had the biggest/best Barn House event to date. At a certain point in the morning I looked out from my post at one of the registers and was torn between feeling giddy and terrified. Apparently, we will be having more Spring Shows!

We are so honored to have friends like Katie, Robin and Leah who saw things getting completely out of control and stepped in to assist at the registers and with crowd control. We are also every honored to have some of the most talented and hardworking featured guests (BH Familia) present to help pull together such an awesome event. They brought their A-Game and worked their fingers to the bone and we will forever be thankful!! We also must thank the five smiling BH Parking Boys (+1 Girl) for guiding our customers safely through the somewhat mushy pasture as well as helping carry treasures to the cars of the happy buyers. The parents of these kids should really be proud!! And certainly we must thank the many-many customers who came out and generously shopped until they almost dropped! HEE HAW!! :o)

We have been getting lots of calls/emails from friends wondering what the heck we have been up to lately.   After riding the crazy train all Summer last year (with our home/gardens suffering from a lack of attention), we decided we were going to slow things down a bit this year to focus on what is most important to us -- home, friends and family. So while a lot of our friends were partying it up with Serena (Farm Chicks) and our lovely friend Celeste (Chaps/Cake) in Spokane a few weeks back, we were here supervising one of the most meaningful and eventful projects to ever occur at our home -- A HIGH-TECH IRRIGATION SYSTEM!

This may not be thrilling to most, but if you have ever had to fight with 100 feet of a water hose in the hot/dry Summer for 3 hours a day trying your best to keep your favorite plants and flowers alive, you will understand.

It will give us back hundreds upon hundreds of hours this Summer/Fall!! We have talked about it for the past 3 years, and finally made it happen this year!! NOT that we have been able to use it yet as it has rained pretty much everyday since the beginning of the month, but one day it will be very useful! LOL

Other than that, we have just been loving the turkeys and baby chicks, editing, fine-tuning, gardening, visiting special friends and getting ready for The Big Daddy of BH events - The Flea!!   The lineup of 30 or so invited guests is amazing!!!!! They are talented, positive, fun, loving, hardworking and incredible folks who we are privileged to know. We will be sharing the details soon, but please save the date - July 31st.

OH, and Barn House Marketplace (our online store) will be back up and running very soon. We have two very special invited guests - Maison Douce and Retreat! More to come this week...

BH May 8th - Update and Directions!

OK..the Press Gods have been looking out for us. We made it on THE COVER of The Columbian Newspaper today!!!! We also made it into the SEATTLE TIMES last week!!!

Holy cow...this is turning out to be Barn House on steroids. The entire outside of The Barn is lined with Antique Iron Beds and other treasures that don't fit inside. Yes, there are that many! There is so much that can't fit in The Barn that we are going to have to set up tables (old school style) with treasures in our overflow area. We must move this stuff! Everything is priced to sell!!! Come one, come all.

Got to run...you know we are scrambling to the finish line (as usual)...

BARN HOUSE SPECIAL MOTHER'S DAY TRIBUTE

Spring is upon us in full force. We can't believe our Spring Show is only TWO weeks away! In addition to lots of Spring cleaning in and around The Barn in preparation for our May 8th BH Vintage Marketplace event, we have also been taking in the beauty of Spring in the Pacific NW, as well as enjoying the company of our little farm and animals.

We even have some new "babies" that we have fallen completely in love with. AND, they love us back!!!

Loving us back and acting like they have some common sense is critical at BH to who can stay here. The ungratefuls and meanie-weenies are banished to greener pastures. It's very hard to get any work done when a turkey gives you such a flirty glance. Did I mention we are a bit behind schedule due to turkey fever????

We almost can't stand leaving them for a moment! They follow us everywhere and will even fly up to perch on my shoulder for a spell. Love, Love LOVE us some turkey...and not for Thanksgiving! We may have found a new calling as Turkey Whisperers.

OK, enough pictures of our new Beautiful Baby Chicks and Loving Spanish Black Turkeys - on with what folks really want to know. The what/how/when of our first show in 2010...THE LINEUP...

#1 - The Boys of BH have entirely TOO much stuff!!! I don't know when the TV show "Hoarders" is going to come knocking on our door, but thank goodness we have 5 acres to spread it all around so it doesn't look dangerous.

We have been asking ourselves how this could happen that soooooooooooooooooo much stuff can be accumulated? I blame Joe. He blames me for enabling him. It needs to be gone from here!

Y'all, please come get this stuff!

We need some space to think. Fortunately(?), we are not the only hoarders that have been stocking up on treasures these winter months...so we are not too hard/hoard(?) on ourselves. We have an entire TEAM of hoarders that have been saving their best treasures for our May 8th show. One day, I will write a song about them/us (when I learn how to play the guitar)..until then, here is our May 8th lineup of treasure talented treasure hoarders...

I have to skip a couple of chapters in the essence of time. We will be back soon to update you on the latest happenings. But first and foremost, we must thank many of you for the kind comments and emails. We have been gone for a while as Joe did lose his Mother a couple of weeks ago. But the love and positive energy you have been sending Joe's way has been essential in managing the pain of losing a Mother. We thank you from the core of our beings -- we are very lucky to have such beautiful friends. We are VERY honored in ways I can't express.
There is something that makes this venture to Camas Antiques very special. You see, Joe grew up going to garage sales, thrift stores and antique malls with his mother. This was something that he and a few of his sisters did with their mother until somewhat recently. These times with her was how he developed his love for collecting treasures, designing and decorating. I know he found peace in displaying the window for Camas Antiques' 6 Year Anniversary Celebration. And I think he did an incredibly awesome job! And I know his Mom is watching and is gushing over her son...
